"quilt"

My sweet little daughter said "quilt" today for the first time!!
I was so excited, I couldn't believe it! She has a little quilt that is always in her bed - the perfect little baby size (and in fact it's almost too small for her). She asks me to wrap her up before naps & bedtime, and today she said so sweetly, "quilt."

On a similar note...
Yesterday Jeff had her in the morning while I went grocery shopping. When I got home, he was telling me about all of their accomplishments & how hard they had worked while I was out. She totally busted him & said "golf." I gave him a hard time about it, but when she woke up from her nap, I got busted too. She walked in and said "sewing." Jeff's like, "Aha, how would she know 'sewing'?" Oh well.

After being sassed so badly about passing up a camera case at Circuit City, I decided to make one. I sketched out a pattern at work (It was Sunday!) and made it when I got home. I think it turned out pretty cute. I still need to cover some of the seams inside. I think it's great for a free case, and much much cuter than those ugly mini-backpacks they call "camera cases."

Everyone's blocks finally came together! This is the top so far. Everyone did such a great job. I can't wait to start quilting it. Yaaay for Rose's baby.

Urban Quilting League

Oooh I'm so excited about the league. As most people know, I love leagues in general. I am particularly fond of our quilting league. All the girls are great and very creative too. Our first project is to make Rose a quilt for her new baby. We picked out 9 or 10 fabrics for the quilt. Our challenge was to make a block and incorporate each fabric some how. It's very difficult, because the blocks are small and that is a lot of different fabric going on. Everyone was so happy to be part of the challenge. Almost all the blocks for Rose's baby quilt have been posted to Flickr. I am going to get them tomorrow and assemble them into her beautiful quilt.

The only block left is April's block. I'm so happy that everyone participated so whole-heartedly in this project. I think because of it, we are going to make more quilts for each other. I feel like we are in an old-timey quilting circle. I love that its pushing all of us out of our comfort zone. I think that's the only place that personal progress is made. Oh, so many more fun things are to come from the UQL, I can just feel it!!!

New Fabric and Quilt Exhibit

Here are the new fabrics I bought to make the quilt for Brian and Natalie. All the fabrics are part of Denise Schmidt's "Katie Jump Rope" collection except for the red polka dots. The picture of that swatch isn't the one I bought either, but I put it up so you can get the idea behind it. I like the retro feel of the fabric and I like that the colors are bright enough that its very modern looking at the same time. So, like I said, I just want to basically do blocks of each in a pattern and quilt something interesting over the top. I'll definitely keep you posted.



Jack and I went to the quilt exhibit at the Annex to the American Folk Art Museum to see the donated quilts that the museum just received. Here are pictures from two of my favorite quilts. we're back!

I don't know why I haven't posted anything- I've been sewing more than usual lately. I have lots of projects going, including a really super cute quilt for my cousin's little guy who is 3 years old & loves (LOVES) music. It's not your usual "kid" quilt, but I think he'll really like it.

Christmas is keeping me busy- I'm working on stockings, placemats, and a tree skirt. Also, I'm making the "Rabies Quilt" (from The Office) for my brother & sister in-law. I'm posting the picture from that episode so you know what I'm talking about. I think it'll give me something to shoot for! Plus I haven't taken pictures of my current projects yet. I'll do that soon- just wanted to actually post something before we hit the 2 month mark!

I was thinking of making my brother Mike the one w/the raccoon foaming at the mouth, and then Jeff's sister Jessica gets the bat. What do you think?

am I 29, or 89???

I recently abandoned my "rule." I bought the Paddington Bear fabric to make a quilt for Livi. I bought more than I needed, so I'm going to make an extra one & either save it or give it to charity. I also bought a Halloween panel to sell at our church's craft sale. How old am I again???

By the way, I'm also entering a German Potato Salad contest, and I'm putting my recipe (which I still have never made in my life) against old German women who have been making their potato salad their entire lives, with recipes handed down from generation to generation. How pissed are they going to be when they see me entering the contest? Better yet, how awesome would it be if I beat them?? Oh man, I really hope I win. I think I stand a chance- my recipe is from Jeff's grandma- first generation German...so maybe I could win?
What does this have to do w/sewing? I don't really know, but I think it works. Both are things that old ladies do. So there ya go.
