I'm really making it

So, I found this.
As always, I think I look a little weird, but what are you going to do? Hopefully I'll get a lot of buzz in some quilting cirlces. Hah, I think its really nice that they included me. I found out some good news about my license transfer to New York too today. So, all in all... pretty good day.

Quilting

Ok -- so showing quilting in pictures is not very effective. I have done my best here. I have quilted two panels on the quilt this way. I don't really know what you would call it. It looks really interesting in person. You get the idea, though. I am doing all the purple panels this way. I do know know what I will do with the green panels. I will keep you posted though!

labor of love

I have started the quilting process. This quilt is such a beast, because its so large. I didn't have enough safety pins to baste it properly. So, I did a hack job, but basted it nonetheless. I did some "stitch-in-the-ditch" stabilizing quilting the other day. Then I can ration the pins to other parts of the quilt. Pathetic, I know! The quilt store was out of them and I don't know where else to go.

My second picture concerns me. I was attacked by an unknown portion of my sewing machine. I was moving my quilt and my finger touched an area (which I thoroughly inspected for sharp blades) and it totally sliced underneath my nail! I was so mad. Plus, it hurt really bad too. Basically, it bit me. I've been really careful since, because I never identified what attacked me and I don't want it to do it again. I think it was the light cover? Hmmmm.....i think this may always be a mystery.

My plan today is to do some quilting in the big squares. Hopefully they will turn out well. It turns out that my quilting store is having an advanced class in just quilting techniques -- but I'm working on the Sunday they are offering it. Stupid Walgreens!

Miter sewing revealed

Carla - check out this website:
Carla click here...

It seems to be the best website I could find with pictures showing what she was doing. I found this YouTube video about miter sewing your binding (which doesn't really need a video), but her parrot is squawking through the whole video. It's really obnoxious. I can also hear her dog panting too (at least I think its a dog). Wouldn't you put your parrot in another room when you are filming your quilting? Quilt people are so crazy....

almost done...

This is the top so far. I'm excited about it- I think it's going to look so pretty. These are mostly Moda fabrics from the 3 sisters line that I bought years ago!! The bright pink fabric is from a line to raise $ for breast cancer. I bought these fabrics so long ago & am excited to finally be almost finished with the top!! I put it on hold for so long because I was making so many baby quilts...now it's time to finish an adult quilt.

Hope you like it! It's a twin sized, but I think I'll use it as my own personal lap quilt instead since our twin bed is in the attic!

Insert expletive(s) here

This corner is the source of my frustration. The instructions merely say "miter sew border..." whatever the heck that means. I'm going to have to wait until I have patience enough for it, so not today!!!

Any suggestions (other than "you need to iron")??

Quilt top is done!!!!

Ok. So as most everyone knows I've had a little more time on my hands than usual. I decided to put it to good use and make a quilt for my bed. The top of the quilt is done! Here are the pictures. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I will say after looking at the same fabric over and over - it is difficult to still love your quilt when you are finished. I think I will like this one when all is said and done.

Quilt top partially complete

I sewed the large portion of the quilt top last night. This covers the top of a queen mattress. I am planning on doing a smaller check pattern on the sides that will hang over the bed. I'm thinking of doing a honeycomb pattern on the back from the same fabric line. It comes in some other colors too. I think that's a nice back side of a quilt. Plus I've been really interested in bees lately. I'm going to go work on the rest of the quilt today before work. Hopefully I can get this assembled quickly and start the whole quilting process!

My newest project

I am starting on a new project. The quilt for Michael has been put on hold and its efforts will be redirected at a later date. I bought these three fabrics today to start a queen sized quilt for my bed. I'm really excited about it. I think I'm going to do unconventional rectangular panels to show off the fabric. The orange polka dots will be used as sashing. It's too bad that the colors of the fabrics aren't really captured in these pictures. The green and purple fabrics are by Etsuko Fuyura. To see more of their fabrics here is the link: http://www.reprodepotfabrics.com/etsukofuyura.html . The colors in the fabrics are really rich. I'll keep you posted with some pictures once I start piecing the fabric together!
